YAMATO president and chief executive officer Takayuki Yajima, whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1917, is on a mission to make the kimono a versatile, easy-care, everyday staple:

“Though it is still perceived as a traditional garment, the kimono should not be seen as a relic of the past, but as an essential in contemporary fashion wardrobes that can mix seamlessly with other pieces. And where better than Paris, the international fashion capital, to celebrate our expansion?”

Garments are made to last and lend themselves easily to adaptations and alterations over time so that they can evolve alongside their wearer into distinctive and long-lasting wardrobe statements.
