YAMATO Tsunagari Project
Creation of the staff uniform for the Tatsuno Art Scene 2021

In the YAMATO Tsunagari Project run by Yamato Co., Ltd., we co-sponsored Tatsuno Art Scene 2021, a new project to be held in Tatsuno City, Hyogo and created the staff uniform.

The project was launched as the successor to the Tatsuno Art Project, the international art festival that had been held for 10 years. As the “Arts and Culture Festival Full of Quaint Atmospheres and Colors,” the project holds various programs such as an art exhibition, film festival, and performing events in Tatsuno Castle Town.

The uniform we created this time is hanten, a traditional garment that has been worn as workwear by craftsmen and merchants since the Edo period. We paid attention to every detail. We used the cotton kimono fabric woven in Kurume, Fukuoka and sewed a piece of the washcloth fabric with the Japanese letters meaning “Tatsuno Theater” on the back of hanten as a patch. The bold emblem, which reminds us of a uniform worn by people working at soy sauce breweries, is dyed using the hosen dyeing technique in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.
The uniform is worn by the staff members working at the site including Ino Theater, built by renovating the Kanei Soy Sauce Factory, the soy sauce brewery built in the Meiji era, so it could be used as the main venue for events. It makes a quaint castle town look more attractive.

During the period of the project, washcloths dyed using the chusen dyeing technique just like the uniform are sold at the venues.
