Yukata, a garment that everyone living in Japan has worn at least once.
Among yukata, those worn daily at hot spring areas and accommodations throughout the year have their own unique characteristics and histories, continuing to be cherished by many.
At YAMATO Lab., we have started a project to give new purpose to yukata that have completed their journey over time. By embracing the charm that comes with the passage of time, we aim to bring them back to the people once again.
About YAMATO Lab.
In the fall of 2023, YAMATO Lab. launched with Keisuke Kanda, the designer of <keisuke kanda>, as its Creative Director. Located in Kagurazaka, the space serves as both a gallery and a storefront.
Lab. has no fixed final destination. Instead of conforming to the trends of today’s world, we remain committed to sharing what we truly believe to be exciting and meaningful, staying true to our own convictions.
About the Products
The “yadotsunagi” items are made by receiving yukata from hot spring areas and accommodations across Japan, unpicking them, and then sewing the pieces together one by one.
Since the pattern placement varies for each product, one of the product’s charms is that you can wear a unique piece just for yourself.
The products also have a stitch mark called “Semamori” sewn into them, which symbolizes a protective charm for children’s health.
The craftsmen sew each one with care, putting their heartfelt thoughts into every stitch.
