Kimonos start to rapidly increase in popularity.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1970<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>The water and oil repellent \u2018hajiku silk\u2019 kimono is developed.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1972<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Construction of the head-office building is completed.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1973<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Sales hit 14.5 billion yen. <\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1977<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Kabuki actor Bando Tamasaburo is appointed as an official Yamato ambassador. Yamato becomes the first chain in the industry to have more than 100 stores.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1978<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>The Garment Research Promotion Organization is established. (Currently known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/kimononomori.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kimono no Mori<\/a> Foundation).<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1984<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Mr Kotaro Nakamura is appointed brand ambassador and the new Yamato brand \u2018Hanai\u2019 is launched. <\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1988<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Takatoshi Yajima becomes company president.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1990<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>The kimono has a fashion revival. The \u2018Eight Color Yukata\u2019 is produced and kickstarts a nationwide yukata boom.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1996<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Singer Namie Amuro is appointed as a brand ambassador.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>1998<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>The company celebrates its 50th anniversary. It launches a kimono themed around Japanese kokuho national treasures. It is named. \u2018Japanese beauty. National Treasures.\u2019<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2000<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>The second-hand kimono shop, \u2018Tansu-ya\u2019 is launched as a franchise venture.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2001<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Singer Takako Uehara is appointed as brand ambassador. The \u2018Super Reversible Furisode\u2019 kimono is launched. The kimono and obi can be worn both ways.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2002<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>For the company\u2019s 85th anniversary, the new brand \u2018Ka.Bu.Ki.\u2019 is announced. The \u2018Tsukuribe no Kai\u2019 initiative is launched that aims to train the next generation of skilled craftsmen.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2003<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Participation in the 400th anniversary marking the start of the Edo Period.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2004<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>A movement to make kimonos more casual begins and the \u2018Nadeshiko\u2019 brand aimed at young people is launched. Yamato \u2018bishoukai\u2019 announces \u2018The Beauty of the Louvre.\u2019<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2007<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>To make kimonos more widely accessible, Yamato launches the \u201cKimono no Mori\u201d initiative.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2010<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Takatoshi Yajima is appointed president. Suzu Hirose is appointed brand ambassador.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2016<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>\u2018Nadeshiko\u2019 is re-launched with the new brand-name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kimonobynadeshiko.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018KIMONO by NADESHIKO\u2019<\/a> and opens a store in Harajuku.<\/dd>\r\n      <dt>2017<\/dt>\r\n      <dd>Centennial of the foundation. \u2018Y. &amp; SONS\u2019 exhibits the \u201cT-KIMONO\u201d which is collaborated with worldwide designer \u201cT-MICHAEL\u201d at the world\u2019s leading fashion fair, Pitti Uomo. \u201cYukata zero\u201d has been launched to eliminate the obstacles to wearing yukata.<br>\r\n        \u201cThe Yamato Online Fireworks Festival\u201d is held under the concept of a little happiness for 10minutes.<br>\r\n        Y. & SONS opens its store in ShinPuhKan, located on the same premises as ACE HOTEL KYOTO.<br>\r\n        Collaborative outerwear developed jointly by \u201cSUZUSAN,\u201d
